I grew up in or near the water all my life, and sailing has been one of my greatest dedications. The fluid forms in many of my sculptures derive from the wind and water. My work connects to these natural elements and my career as a craftsman.
From an early age, I built furniture and anything else I could with the materials at hand. It wasn’t until college that I began to test the boundaries of my abilities. At the University of Pennsylvania, I developed a passion for sculpture and furniture. However, at the time I was not capable of making the art I wanted.
After college I returned to my passion for the water with a new purpose of gaining the abilities necessary to create. I attended the International Yacht Restoration School for traditional wooden boats and for the next ten years I honed my skills as a professional boatbuilder, maker and teacher.
My background can be seen throughout my art. A high level of craftsmanship coupled with my continued exploration of techniques and materials connects my art to its origins as craft. I treat every aspect as an opportunity to highlight each individual component.
