Work
My interest is focused on issues of contemporary painting and image-making, the relationship between flat surface and three-dimensional illusion. While I am influenced by traditional masterworks from different art historical periods the works are also impacted by street art and disposable culture, combining representation, pop art and abstraction. In my work I experiment with the relationship between disciplines- painting, photography and digital and some of the ways in which perception is shaped and distorted by image overload in our hyper-connected environment. My paintings represent the quest for the relief point when multilayered painting styles amalgamate to create a meaningful and visually engaging image; maneuvering very fine graphic elements, realism, expressionism, cartoon and raw bold erasures my work explores the meaning of images, their impact on society, politics, culture, and the role of remote image consumption as it relates to identity, taste, mortality and fragmentation of self and culture.
