Nicole Carvajal is a professional painter born in Santiago de Chile. Married and mother of 2 grown-up girls. Carvajal observes the day-to-day world, as well as the world of art-history. From both she selects images in which human, botanic and animal figures play an important role. The surrealistic South American school of painting is the second important source of inspiration for Carvajal. Now living for more than 35 years in the Netherlands, she often uses images from its rich past: Vermeer, Dou and others.
Nicole Carvajal was born in 1948, Santiago de Chile. She started (1969) her professional education at the Facultad de Bellas Artes (Universidad de Chile), where her teacher Rodolfo Opazo, introduced her to the world of Dada and Surrealism. Later in 1975 she studied at the Rietveld Academie, (Amsterdam, the Netherlands) and finished her studies in 1979. Here she was a pupil of Herman Gordijn, who teached her the skills to solve the practical problems with the translation of e.g. glass, flesh or air, to the canvas.
