Cecile Gonne-Victoria

Photoreportage is the starting point of my artistic research since 1988. Already passionate about capturing the moment, I learned to choose and highlight detail at the film development stage.

The use of paint did not allow me to reproduce my feelings or to be faithful to the detail of the place. The collage of the fragments of these photographed memories then impose themselves on me as the beginning of my paintings.
Who is behind this apparent reality, behind these different points of view? What do we see through the filter of our conditioning and our beliefs? A form is only an appearance, a moving reality. What the eye perceives is actually made up of emptiness and energy.
Can we free ourselves from the simple form to go further beyond what we think we see?

Cécile Gonne-Victoria is best known for her collages on canvas of photographic fragments enhanced with vibrant colors.
Cécile Gonne-Victoria lives and works between the Paris region and Brittany where she has her roots.
Through her paintings and photographs Cécile Gonne-Victoria questions us about the reality of the world around us. She proposes to free herself from the simple form to go further beyond what we think we see.
She questions the appearance, explores the energy that emerges from all things. Lines of force and vibrant colors create a sublimated link between fragments of glued snapshots. The energy given by the brush strokes and the scratches of the knives galvanizes each of his compositions.
This approach, which links appearance and deep energetic reality, makes her work a singular combination.
With each canvas, Cécile challenges us: how to express the particular vibration of a place and reveal the energy that connects us to the world?
