Christopher Lee Gilmer is a self-taught American-Filipino artist known for his surreal and dreamlike paintings. His work often explores themes of mental health, mythology, and the human condition. Gilmer's art career began after a period of hospitalization for depression and hallucinations. During this time, he was inspired by the work of Salvador Dali and began to use art as a form of catharsis.
Chris is inspired by data moshing, quantum mechanics, and the oversaturation of images of life as he creates artwork that explores the psychological effects of each physical mutation as if multiple universes merge in time one after another. He explores the disparate outcomes of candid moments as one singular reality by using a cubist framework. Often blurring the lines between realism and expressionist art, sometimes adding primitive line art to entangling almost parallel poses.
Except for a few classes in ACC, self-taught.
