The German-based artist Daniela Neumann often uses materials such as sand, seeds or bark to bring the atmosphere in her paintings to life and to express certain content with form and color. It is important to her to establish a relationship with a motif and to analyze the subject from an emotional point of view. With a doctorate in German studies, she explores the meaning of literary motifs in her paintings.

Although I studied art at university, it is the encounters along the way that have truly shaped my practice. Each museum visit, every book I read, every model I meet, and every painting I create leaves its mark on me — offering lessons, challenges, moments of loss, opportunities to grow, and reasons to love what I do.
For me, the journey — the ongoing process of growth and discovery — is what truly matters in painting. Each finished work is just a milestone along this path. I aspire to reach new places with my art, but it is the struggle to get there and the questions that remain afterwards that give my work its depth and meaning.
