Primarily self-taught, David Hauge explores art through a hands-on, material-driven process. He works in acrylic paint and a wide range of drawing media including pastel, crayon, textile, metal, wood, and canvas. His assembled mosaics are crafted from reclaimed materials—scrap wood, canvas, and metal—each piece cut, sanded, and arranged into intricate wall designs. Paint and mixed media are layered generously across surfaces, creating a dense, tactile experience.
David believes the uniqueness of his art comes from the diversity of materials he gathers and transforms. Each piece begins without intention, relying on intuition and experimentation to guide its evolution. Through multiple stages of construction and change, the art reveals itself. Chance and interpretation play integral roles, and the final works—impossible to replicate—celebrate process, texture, and transformation.
