David Hubbard

Born in the 1970's in the midland mining town of Nuneaton, a love for painting and art has shaped and inspired me from childhood. Early interest in the giants of art such as Van Gogh, Matisse and Picasso, grew with the discovery of early 20th century artists such as Modigliani, Klee and Macke and opened out with the abstract expressionists and more recently, artists such as Heron, William Scott and Tal R. I completed a Fine Arts degree in Painting at Cheltenham College of Art in 2000, but after an almost self-imposed hiatus, I returned to painting with a more naive and honest response to my world. Predominantly figurative, I explore how simplified colour and shapes convey memories and sense of place.
