Study of botanical material is central to his work. He constantly gathers information through direct observational drawing, examining structure and patterns of growth.
Music is another strong influence in particular the work of Berg, Debussy, Janacek and Sibelius; principally for the qualities of rhythm and a-rhthmic juxtapositions and structures.
Reflection, ambiguity and transcience are major interests. Information is layered into work where the theme of reflection is both a visual phenomenon and a mental process
