David’s work is inspired by such great artists as Brancusi and Noguchi. Both have similar ethics of simplicity, purity, smoothness, and organic forms that are found in Minimal sculptors, as well in the Constructivist method of working with materials in a “natural” way, so that the material dictates the form.
David utilizes marble of different origins and colors, and also casts bronze, adding various patinas to the bronze surface. Typically beginning with a simple form, he cuts, grinds, sands and finishes his stone and marble pieces either with a mat or brilliant shine.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta, he grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. At a young age, he was diagnosed with severe dyslexia. He found art to be his strength. With encouragement from his parents and teachers, he graduated from the University of British Columbia, Canada with a BEd in Art; the Sir John Cass School of Goldsmithing, London, England with a post-graduate degree; the State University of New York, New Paltz, New York, with an MFA in Gold and Silversmithing; and finally the California State University in Sacramento with an MEd in Special Education.
