Ted Detoy

As a commercial photographer, I was challenged to photo-interpret an Art Director’s concept. Now, as the ideas roll around in the mind, the task of converting them onto canvas presents a different challenge. Often, what my mind sees and what appears on the canvas are quite different. Artists, like everyone else, want to express their thoughts and emotions. Everyone is unique with different means of expression. We are all influenced by somebody or something to varying degrees based on our individual life experiences. I am self-taught and have been absorbing these lessons throughout my life. Every painting is another lesson. I don’t consider myself as following any particular school of art – I have a paintbrush and a canvas and I take it from there.

No formal art education...been painting in my living room in the evenings for about 10 years...
