Elizabeth Hefty-Khoury is a British-Lebanese conceptual artist and writer based in Valencia, Spain whose work reflects a deep engagement with literature, mythology, and cultural identity.
Her artistic practice explores the boundaries between the physical and spiritual realms, often focusing on themes of mortality and transformation. By abstracting the human form, she delves into the duality of existence, using fragments from various sources to inspire dialogues about cultural dichotomies and conflicts.
Hefty-Khoury's work frequently investigates the intersection of text and image. In her series "Imagined Idioma," she creates an imaginary language inspired by ancient scripts such as Irish Ogham, Arabic, Norse runes, and Japanese calligraphy, fusing text and imagery into unified compositions.
Her series, "The Politics of Orthodoxy," examined the repression of women by orthodox branches of religion, utilizing symbols like hair and silence to convey her message.
Elizabeth Hefty-Khoury is also the co-owner of Bloom Gallery in Valencia, an art space dedicated to showcasing emerging and established artists from the Mediterranean region and the Middle East.
