Ellen Alt

I grew up in Buffalo, New York and am thankful for my early exposure to art through the Albright Knox Art Museum’s excellent collection. My work has moved from collage and calligraphy to assemblage and mixed media. I love working with both fine art and every day materials to see how they combine to form textures, patterns and surprises. My interests include the history of writing and symbols and more recently Climate Change which has been the inspiration for my current work. I also organize community sculpture and mural projects throughout the world. My husband, Carlos Narvaez, is a photographer; we live in Manhattan. My studio is in Long Island City, New York.

Exhibited in the U.S, Germany, Russia, China, England and the Middle East. One of my pieces was presented to Hillary Clinton on the occasion of the peace treaty between Israel and Jordan and is in the collection of the White House.
