INTRODUCTION

As a Lower East side, New York city based "visual" artist, I have been working outside the established mainstream - succeeding in remaining obscure for half a century. As a musician and originator of the Pop-Punk band: The Revelons, I have attained the ostensible reputation of "Unknown Legend" and “Lost talent.”

[Individual Artist Award (Jerome Foundation) for my New York Harbor event (Powwow) and selected artist (Neuberger Biennial 2001)]. These and other installations have been covered in the New Yorker Magazine and the New York Times. My artworks are included in prestigious, private collections. As singer-songwriter for the Revelons and Not Las Vegas I am credited with hundreds of recordings and numerous releases.

SCHOOL OF DADA / UNIVERSITY OF FLUXUS

My function as an artist is to not create works of visual beauty.
A schooled artisan beholding those skills is appropriate

My role as an artist is to not offer an opinion.
The viewer is better equipped to offer same.

My purpose as an artist is to not voice self expression.
Those who require that outlet will express their innermost feelings.

My intention as an artist is to not change the world.
Better the artist/activist, whose efforts I greatly admire.

My job as an artist is not to create acid-free “Museum-Quality” everlasting works.
Scholars and archivists may deem the necessity to do so.

My desire as an artist is not to duplicate exacting renditions that capture the wonders of the human form (or of the beauty of nature).
See: Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, Andrew Wyeth or Gray’s Anatomy.

My goal as an artist is not to indulge in heartwarming sentiment.
See: YouTube: Heartwarming/Sentimental

My responsibility as an artist is not to pursue what mass-culture deems important.
The masses have no idea of what art is.

My vision as an artist is not to create large-scale and grandiose pieces to convey small ideas.
Let those with influence and with b...

CURRENT SOUNDSCAPE INSTALLATIONS

Gregory Lee Pickard Presents a Soundscape installation: "M'Finda Kalunga" "The Garden At The Edge Of The Other Side Of The World"
Behold: A non-visual work of art -consequentially equitable to the visually impaired.
At The M'finda Kalunga Community Garden
165 Forsyth Street at Rivington Street Manhattan
Saturday, September 14th, 2019 3-7 PM
From the edge of the other side of the world, wild Africa comes alive!
Superimposed sounds of bird species, elephants, lions and monkeys of the African Congo abound within the garden's site. Designed to startle, engage and enthrall visitors and passersby, this art event is more than mere amusement however -acting as homage and commemorative to the African-American burial ground in which the garden takes it's name.
