Hillel Zehnwirth is an expressive artist based in Tel Aviv, Israel. Deeply influenced by German Expressionism—particularly Otto Dix and Egon Schiele—his work explores themes of identity, emotion, and the inner worlds we construct to survive and connect.
A graduate of Emily Carr University in Vancouver and a student of the late painter Leo Contini, Zehnwirth has been a professional artist since 2001.
In recent years, his work has evolved through the influence of Danish painter Vilhelm Hammershøi, embracing quieter tones, atmospheric stillness, and psychological depth. Zehnwirth’s art merges raw emotion with quiet introspection, creating bold, personal imagery that invites viewers into a shared emotional space.
I studied art under the late painter Leo Contini from 1995 to 1998 and continued my education at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, Canada, from 1998 to 2002. These formative years provided me with a strong foundation in classical techniques while nurturing my expressive, contemporary artistic voice.
