James Cummins

I come originally from Liverpool where I studied shortly at the College of Art as a young man before leaving England.
Ive lived in a few different countries since then and now live, working as a painter, in Berlin, where Ive been for the past 20 years.Im married to my German lady who sometimes doubles as muse! My interests are practical philosophy, history and my annual trips to India.

Im mostly self taught, an autodidact.I did spend two years studying carving and wood finishing techniques at a handicraft school in Sweden,which was fantastic. After years of experiment I can safely say that most of the materials and painting mediums in my studio are self made. I have researched old manuals and treatises about painting materials and for the knowledge therein found am truly indebted. The canvas that I use is Belgian linen and this is stretched on museum standard supports.
