I was born 1977 in Bangor, North Wales. Studied illustration at Norwich School of Art and Design, graduating in 1999. After a spell of illustration, I became a professional painter in 2001. I am now living and painting in Newcastle Upon Tyne
Jim Edwards is best known for his depictions of Newcastle, London and Edinburgh. His paintings range from detailed city scenes of raised perspectives and bright colours, to newer work of bold outlines and dominant abstracted forms. Both follow a theme of architecturally inspired structures.
Jims paintings are not from life, but have their origins in memory, how he remembers the workings of the city. Through a combination of imagination and selective memory, perspectives and compositions are altered and exaggerated.
He regularly works on private commissions from his studio at the Mushroom Works, Newcastle Upon Tyne. And was recently commissioned to paint a triptych for the Great North Run.
