Laurie Buman

Laurie Buman is an international, Chicago-based artist best known for mixed media pieces that seamlessly merge digital technology with traditional mediums such as pastel, acrylic, wax, gold leaf, and photography. Their work is deeply rooted in a personal search for the sacred and divine, often drawing inspiration from the indigenous cultures and rituals of Mexico.

With an approach that layers meaning beyond the obvious, each piece incorporates components and images carrying their own unique history. Purposefully combined, these elements tell greater stories that transcend the physical and reach into the spiritual.

This body of work serves as a way of bringing light into darkness, influenced by long-held beliefs in Mexican culture—most notably Catholicism—and the selfless legacy of saints. Through these works, the artist humbly reflects upon pressing social issues that affect the most vulnerable in today’s society.

In the Awakening series, Laurie Buman captures the ephemeral beauty of spring blossoms and the ever-changing landscape.
