Liam Symes is a British landscape painter who has maintained a committed studio practice since graduating in Fine Art from Plymouth College of Art in 2013. His work has received recognition through a number of national and international competitions, leading to his selection as a One to Watch by Saatchi Art and inclusion in an expanding body of established private collections.
In recent years, Symes has concentrated his practice on the Cornish landscape, where he lives and works. Painting directly from observation, he draws upon plein air methods to capture the shifting atmosphere, light, and spatial rhythm of place. This approach allows each work to retain a sense of immediacy while remaining grounded in careful structure and material sensitivity.
His paintings explore the balance between intuition and control — combining expressive mark-making with considered composition. The resulting works form a cohesive and recognisable body of contemporary landscape paintings that sit comfortably within both modern and traditional interiors, reflecting an artist whose practice continues to evolve with clarity, restraint, and purpose.
