I was born in 1993 in a multinational family of Russians, Ukrainians and Estonians on a khutor near Rostov-on-Don. My childhood was shaped by the care of my grandmothers and great-grandmothers; their stories filled my childhood with magic and miracles, teaching me to appreciate the beauty of human life. These stories were not just fun but based on their brutal fate, metaphorically reflecting social and political problems. From first-hand experience, I learned about real life in the Soviet years, hunger and repression. This is what laid in me my civic position and later the choice of direction in art.
In 2001, I entered the Art School of Secondary Education and graduated with honours eight years later. However, for the breadth of my knowledge, I wanted to delve deeper into natural science issues, which led me to study genetics at the university in 2011. Ten years of a scientific career allowed me to consider the many problems from a different perspective.
In 2019, I experienced several circumstances that changed my life and revealed the need to devote myself to art. The most important was moving to Denmark, which caused a wave of questions such as "Why are people around smiling? Why are they happy, and am I happy? What is happiness, and does it exist?" I began researching my family's genealogy, working with archives and drawing historical parallels.
By 2022, I decided to leave my scientific career behind for the sake of art, and a few days later, Russia attacked Ukraine. This event showed me how fragile our world is and once again emphasized the value of human life. This fall, a video performance was created dedicated to the repressions in the USSR and the impact on subsequent generations.
My first solo exhibition, dedicated to the theme of emigration and the rethinking of human values during this transformation, the search...
