Mathieu Weemaels

I m a Belgian painter, born in 1967 in Brussels.
My work is figurative and very often quite intimate. I work with pastels or oil painting. Most of the time, I paint compositions with objects and often with a mirror. They re kind of still lives but for me the abstract feeling is more important than the representational aspect.
In my work with nudes, i represent people isolated in their own world, preys of their thougnts, of their qualms.The serie "apesanteur", "weightlessness"is the counterpoint to my other nudes.It shows figures immersed in an imaginary space, as if they were weightless,freed and appeased. My favourites are Caravage,Rembrandt,,Freud, Lopez Garcia, Bacon,................
