Matthew Brooks has been one of the leading Religious/Inspirational Artists in the country for nearly 40 years. His work is in the public and private collections of museums, churches, and discerning collectors throughout the world. His paintings and sculpture were the feature of the 1999 book: A Glimpse Beyond The Veil, The Art of Matthew Brooks.
Also, in 2010, international soccer star David Beckham chose Matthew's painting "The Man of Sorrows" to have made into a large tattoo on his left side.

I'm mostly self taught to the extent that anyone can truthfully say that. I listen carefully to criticism and am always striving to make my art better. I've had a number of mentors over the years, including my father Richard Brooks who was a successful landscape painter. I believe that if you stop growing and learning then it's time to hang it up. There is no longer any point to continuing.

I do a lot of large commissions for Churches and religious institutions and this leaves me with fragmented time to work on any smaller pieces that I'm inspired to do. Couple that with the fact that marble takes time to carve and the result is not a lot of available work at any one time. I currently have only four pieces, two paintings, a bronze, and a marble to offer. I consider this to be an unusual surplus and it only came about because a recent and very large church commission had to be put on hold when serious deterioration was discovered in the choir loft that had to be attended to. I'm hoping to complete one more marble piece this summer before embarking on another commission. I also hope to have a bronze version of "An Answered Prayer" done from molds of the clay maquette I used to develop the marble from. The Good Lord Willing.
