The figure appears as the most frequent theme in the sculpture of Mirella Gerosa, an artist who expresses the will of a deeper and deeper research in progress on the same subject.

The first works created between the end of the 80s and 90s, particularly a series of bronzes which give evidence to most of the themes that will keep coming up in the artist’s future poetic and plastic forms.

Figures appears in several different situation, the subject being for instance a lonely figure in different postures, an image conveying the beloved theme of motherhood, or a couple of passionate lovers warmly embraced.

The bronzes of Mirella Gerosa express clearly their artistic development: in the first works some anatomical parts such as hands and feet are missing. They are proposed again in the latest bronzes, with uneven and unequal surfaces.

Another main interest of Mirella Gerosa is the terracotta. She has such a particular touch, that her terracotta seems to have the warm and organic essence of wood.

The lasts works express all the possibilities of the terracotta, often presented in its natural essence and sometimes brightened with different colours.

Born in Milan in 1964, Mirella Gerosa attended sculpture lessons by Master AliK Cavaliere at the Brera Academy of fine arts and in 1986 disserted her degree thesis in the Art History with the well-known art critic Raffaele De Grada. She worked with the sculptor Francesco Somaini for the creation of the monument dedicated to the “Tessitrice” of Menaggio.

She attended the studio of Liciano Minguzzi and in 1994 she refined her craftsmanship by attending the courses of TAM (Pesaro) directed by Arnaldo Pomodoro. She contributed to set up important theatrical stages designing at Pomodoro’s studio.

Actually, she lives and works in Milan, teaching Plastic Arts at the secondary Art School Caravaggio.
She exposes in public and private galleries in Italy and in foreign countries.

Her exhibitions took place in the following Italian places:
Lions Club Monza, Galleria del Barcon, Galleria Haidea and Palazzo Reale in Milan, Pietrarubbia Castle in Pesaro, Gallery in Turin, Orta San Giulio (Novara), Tricase Museum (Lecce), Sillico (Lucca), Museum in Spinetoli (Ascoli Piceno), Pozzo Garitta di Albissola Marina (Savona).
Abroad she has been exhibiting in France: FIAP Jean Monnet in Paris, Mézières en Brenne, Centre Vaas; in Austria Galerie Angerer Vomperbach; in Albany contemporary art Museum di Durazzo; in USA in Nashiville.
