Nicholas O'Leary

A good painting is a most beautiful object. The preparation of the canvas, the composition, the lighting, the palette, the brushstrokes, the texture, and the subject should all be treated with the utmost reverence. I am always pushing myself and always trying to achieve something new with every painting. Conceptually and stylistically my collection seems jagged and unconnected, but it is always in an endeavor to move forwards. To create beautiful objects. If my latest painting is not a step forward, it is a failure.
Born in Gisborne, New Zealand, in 1986, I have always been painting. From 2004 – 2008 I studied architecture at the University of Auckland and after that moved to Norway to join MIR. I have studied under many artists along the way, most recently with Odd Nerdrum, here in Norway.
