Peter Matthews

Peter Matthews was born in Zimbabwe in 1955 and moved to South Africa to study Graphic Design.
He became a South African citizen and went on to build a succesful advertising agency, Matthews & Charter, Ogilvy. Rated one of the most creative agencies in South Africa by the Financial Mail.
Peter Sold his shares in the agency in 2000 to focus on his passion - Art.
Peter creates original and compelling works of art and is inspired by the beauty of the human form, human emotion and the human spirit. His preferred mediums are oil, charcoal and pencil.
He is also a documentary and feature film director.

In addition to being an artist, he is one of South Africa's most respected film and commercials director's. He has conceptualized and directed many commercials that have received international award recognition during his time as partner and creative head of Matthews & Charter, Ogilvy & Mather ad agency.
In 2006-2007, Peter directed the international award-winning feature film, 'Oil on Water', in which his own works of art were featured.
Peter has exhibited his work both locally and internationally. In 2000 Peter produced a series of artworks for his first solo art exhibition in Durban, South Africa. The following year, he held a sell out international art exhibition in Germany.
He has produced the illustrations for a South African Childrens Book series, 'Animal Adventures in Africa' and is the Chairman of PawPrint Africa, a non-profit organisation to help literacy and conservation in Africa.
