Saurabh Kumar Pramanik

I am a full-time working professional and an amateur self-taught artist. My medium of choice is Watercolours. The journey began on December 2015 when I came across some art materials left at home by my wife who was vacationing with the kid. What began as an exploration to re-live childhood memories has turned into a serious hobby. I am heavily influenced by nature especially mountains (having grown up in the Himalayas) and my interests are primarily landscapes/cityscapes. Among the several contemporary masters that have influenced my work are Joseph Zbukvic, Chien Chung Wei and Alvaro Castagnet.

Being a working professional, most paintings are done at night. I am very fond of plein air whenever I can find time, and holidays are exploited fully for plein airs. Paper is one of the most important element in watercolour and my choice of paper varies from Arches, Saunders, Indian Handmade etc. along with the various branded pigments (Daniel Smiths, Mission Gold, White Nights, Camlin etc.)

Watercolour is a dynamic medium and has a life of its own, and this is what fascinates and continues to surprise me, and leads me on to explore this wonderful medium.
