My paintings explore the human condition and the array of confusing emotions and experiences that we encounter in this life. Love, loss, and longing are some of the main themes of my work. I paint intuitively and the work becomes a direct reflection of my own feelings and emotions at the time of creation. The paintings tap into my unconscious and subconscious mind as I let the color, mark making and composition flow freely. The juxtaposition and accumulation of advancing and receding positive and negative expressive brushwork form an abstracted landscape: a sense of place, a moment in time. The landscape becomes a metaphor–a mental space that draws the viewer in and lets them find their own solace in the work.
Color and paint are used expressively to create a multitude of hues that overlap and build to create spatial relationships. These colors are an intuitive combination of chromic neutrals and highly saturated hues. The thickness and thinness of the paint application creates spatial depthness and flatness. With lyrical titles, the paintings become visual poetry. The artwork has its own language and rhythm that mirrors that of a poem.
