Tom’s artistic work is primarily abstract or surreal with styles ranging from minimalistic / geometric to gestural / expressive. This variety results from his artistic approach: He creates his artworks in complex procedures based primarily on digital images. Tom is programming all creative parts of his workflows himself because artistic coding is an intrinsic part of his work. Many abstract artists are inspiring him, including Morris Louis, Joan Mitchell and Markus Prachensky.
Sporadic use of AI-applications or creative tools designed by others will be explicitely mentioned and acknowledged.
Tom Brummendorf is living and working in Lörrach (Basel Area) and Stuttgart.
The University of Tübingen, Germany.
Art galleries and art fairs.
Tom is a self-taught artist.
Earlier in his work Tom had been inspired by Vera Molnar and Manfred Mohr, pioneers in algorithmic art, and by John H. Conway’s „game of life“. He created abstract drawings based on concepts of biology and biochemistry, reflecting his background in biosciences.
At first, Tom started to build his portfolio with black and white analog photography, developed in his dark room. This early work, partially influenced by Edward Weston and Ansel Adams, was primarily figurative until it gradually moved more into minimalism and abstraction.
