Curtis Rhodes

I am a film photographer. I studied fine art photography at the San Francisco Art Institute but was seduced by the money to be made as a social event photographer and so turned away from personal photography. As I approach my later years I am returning to that which made me first pick up a camera as a form of self expression.

I graduated first from Pierson High School in Sag Harbor, NY. I then attended Southampton College as a fine arts major, studying under such artists as Fairfield Porter and Larry Rivers. In 1966 I transferred to the San Francisco Art Institute, where I took up photography. Blair Stapp and Jerry Burchard were there as the foundation of the photography program with Imogene Cunningham stopping by occasionally to lend her unique perspective.

My work has been displayed around the Seattle region in various restaurants and taverns. My first real recognition was when I was invited to participate in the Mill Creek Art Walk.
