I'm Mark Highfield and I was born and raised in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England. and I've had a love of art and have been painting and drawing from my adolescence. Twentyfive or so years ago I attended art classes at my local college for about a year but I'm a mainly self taught artist. I am versatile in using a variety of art media including watercolour, oils, pastels and oil pastels, pencil, charcoal, graphite, and ink. The subjects I enjoy painting include landscapes, still life, animals, people and portraits. I am versatile and flexible in styles of painting and can produce works in realism, impressionism and abstract. I aim to produce my artwork with a loose painterly style. Although I paint a variety of subjects I am particularly drawn to landscape painting and drawing. I love the natural forms of the landscape and aim to capture these forms in my work. I also like to express the interplay of light with these forms and aim to produce strong contrasts between light and shadows in my work. I have been exhibiting my artwork both in solo exhibitions and group exhibitions for the past twenty years. I aim to capture both subtle tones in some of my work and also strong contrast between light and dark forms in my other works. In my paintings I like to explore the relationship between colour and natural forms.
