I capture moments where emotions come to rest, finding solace in the quiet beauty of nature.
My practice began with poppies, long regarded as symbols of comfort, consolation, and remembrance. Delicate yet resilient, radiant yet fleeting, they continue to guide my exploration of the layered emotions that shape our inner lives.
I build my paintings in layers using traditional Korean materials such as hanji paper, ink, and mineral pigments. Each layer holds time, gradually becoming part of the emotions within the work. Through this slow, repetitive process, the paintings quietly come to life.
Like flowers, our lives unfold in cycles rather than straight lines. Joy and sorrow often exist side by side, shaping who we are over time. My work translates these emotional rhythms into the visual language of flowers.
In recent works, this language has expanded into wider landscapes, where changes in light, color, and season reflect shifting emotional states. Within these scenes, I explore the beauty of coexistence, where different forms of life bloom in their own ways.
Through my paintings, I invite viewers to pause, reflect, and recognize the unseen seasons within themselves the quiet moments when something tender, resilient, and quietly luminous begins to bloom.
