Sabin Dumitriu

Raised in my father's atelier in Romania, I began painting early and never really stopped. I trained as an interior architect in Bucharest, and the same eye — for gesture, shape and colour — runs through the buildings and the paintings alike. My work moves between gestural abstraction on shaped plywood supports, monochrome objects, and forms that sit just slightly off from the familiar. I'm drawn to the materiality of colour, and to the moment an object loosens from its function and becomes something else.
