I started this watercolour while attending the Fabrianoinacquarello watercolour festival this last month of May. Unfortunately, the rain interrupted me so I put the finishing touches back at home. Fabriano is a medieval town in Italy with a well known paper manufacturer.

Krystyna Szczepanowski is a figurative painter whose practice is centered on the fluid and unpredictable nature of watercolors. Based in Switzerland, she explores the delicate balance between technical anticipation and the "happy accidents" inherent to the medium. Her work frequently highlights the granulation of pigments and the natural flow of water on paper, techniques she uses to replicate reality while embracing a limited sense of control. In her still life compositions, Krystyna focuses on the beauty of ordinary objects by isolating them from their usual settings. She is primarily attracted to the interplay of light and shadow, as well as the specific colors and patterns that define a subject. By isolating these items, she invites the viewer to offer them fresh attention and perceive the mundane through a lens of quiet sophistication. This interest in observation extends to her involvement with the Urban Sketchers movement, where sketching on location has refined her perception of the world. Her subjects range from the play of light on domestic objects to the architectural details found during her travels. Since 2020, she has served as the Swiss country leader for FabrianoinAcquarello, an annual festival in Italy. Her work has been recognized in international exhibitions, establishing her authority within the global watercolor community.
