My name is Rea Schenk, and I create art across multiple disciplines: photo art, digital and traditional painting, and mixed media. For myself – and, if you wish, for you as well. Art, for me, is a language for the unspeakable – a means of confronting the complexity of the world. A fundamental developmental trauma permeates both my art and my life, manifesting consciously and unconsciously throughout my work. Through my artistic practice, I seek to make visible and tangible both my own experiences and the thoughts and stories of viewers. I understand the artistic process as an open exchange between myself and the world. What moves me externally – emotionally or intellectually – I absorb, infuse with my own colors, impressions, and associations, and return in transformed form. It is a kind of processing in which lived experience passes through me to re-emerge in new shape.
