Jo Hudspeth

A self-taught, contemporary artist, Jo Hudspeth gained a love for painting whilst studying towards an A Level in Art History at college, where she favoured styles that sought to capture the mood of the artist or subject as opposed to replicating reality, such as Fauvism and American Modernism. Since then, she has used her passion for travel as an opportunity to discover more about art and culture from around the globe: taking influence from the subjects and style of contemporary European and Navajo art, as well as reflecting on the bright and expressive use of colour found in paintings by modern African artists, such as Peju Alatise of Nigeria, and Katanu Kay of Kenya.

Working in a community wellbeing and support role, Jo aims to infuse her art with the emotion, passion, and sometimes struggle that she sees within the individuals she works with on a day-to-day basis. This often presents itself as vibrant colour and expressive brushstrokes that offer an element of truth and integrity to each piece.

Jo is currently working primarily on her ‘Not Safe For Work’ collection, a series of nude paintings that depict the beauty, sensuality, and power of ‘human’. The NSFW collection strives to empower, with an aesthetic that endures. ...
