Luis Sagués

REVIEW

My name is Luis Cáceres Sagués, my artistic name is "Sagués", I am a visual artist from the city of Concepción Chile (South America). My work is made mainly of acrylic on canvas. I chose this technique for the following reasons: because of its bright pigments; because it allows adding layers with a short drying time that facilitates the execution and application of glazes; it can also be worked in thin layers like watercolor or with thick brushstrokes and a spatula. I also work with the oil and mixed technique.

My painting is figurative and a mixture of styles ranging from: realism, hyperrealism, magical realism and fantasy themes close to surrealism. In my work I do a re-interpretation of reality, I do not seek to pretend to emulate a photograph or make a simple mimesis, preserving a pictorial language in it.

In addition to being a painter, I am a photographer and I am always looking to capture images that are interesting for me to take to a work and I am always in continuous observation of the reality that surrounds me. Studies

January 2016 attends the seminar "Contemporary Art" organized by the Museum of Fine Arts in Mall del Trébol (Concepción).

1984 - 1989 attends and graduates from the Graphic Design career with a Visual Communication mention at IPS (former design school of the University of Chile) Santiago (Chile).

1982 - 1983 he studied Architecture at the Universidad del BíoBío, Concepción.

1979 attends a drawing and oil painting workshop with the outstanding artist Héctor Robles Acuña in the city of Concepción. That same year at age 14 I started painting.

1978 attends a portrait and pencil drawing workshop dictated by the portrait artist Héctor Cifuentes in the city of Concepción, BíoBío region (Chile).

Individual exhibitions

January 2019 individual exhibition "Biodiversity and Identity" sponsored by the honorable deputy Camila Vallejo Dowling. The exhibition was mounted in the Hall Mezzanina of the National Congress, Valparaiso (Chile).

August 2018 individual exhibition "Brief contemplation" in the art gallery of Campos Deportivos Llacolén (Concepción).

December 2017 individual exhibition at "Christmas Fair" in Mall del Centro (Concepción).

June 2016 individual exhibition "Reconstruction" in the exhibition gallery of the Universidad del Desarrollo (Concepción).

May 2016 individual exhibition in the exhibition hall of the Instituto Chileno Norteamericano de Cultura (Concepción).

June 2010 individual exhibition "Mímesis e imagination" in the exhibition hall of the Chamber of Tourism and Culture of Quillón (BioBio).

Collective exhibitions

April to November 2021 will be part of the collective itinerary of selected works in the national painting competition «Painting our railway heritage» (2020), organized by the CEPAS foundation, the I.
