Vinicio Horta

Vinicio Horta is a Brazilian artist who for the past thirty years has been working mainly from London. He does however regularly return to Rio de Janeiro where he continues to work as an artist, showing his creativity and originality with consummate skill. He combines his exceptional technical skill with a unique sensitivity. In all his work there is praise for the human existence, even in moments of conflict. Like a poet, Vinicio Horta brings forth from paper and canvas, disturbing images of humanity, combining aggression with tenderness. This is his catharsis as a draftsman. The contradiction between good and evil, beauty and ugliness, results in an ode to draftsmanship itself. Only those who possess Vinicios sensitivity are capable of producing a pure, lyrical testimony of themes, which catch the viewers eye. By his creativity, harmony and substance are perfectly combined with his technique; colour is an intense element of drama, which contrasts with the black line. It results in an almost aesthetic interpretation. If Vinicio Horta, at first sight, does not seem to be involved with the chaos of our modern world, he just cannot distance himself from it because these are the reflections of an artist who is also a man of the world.
