The Prospector is based on two collaged images. One of the abandoned Kennecott Coppermine in Alaska, and the other, a low-resolution image of bulrushes. These images were hanging around in my archive for years. Through various stages of viewing and digital manipulation over a long period of time, the image was transformed, and eventually made its transition into a large scale oil painting. Designed for a solo show at 60 Threadneedle Street, London. The immersive scale of the painting with strong vectors invite the viewer into the image. More a memory than a reality, the work attempts to depict ‘the mental impression that remains when the image itself has passed’. Breaking away from, and even discarding the source images allowed 'The Prospector' to evolve independently.
