My technique is expressive and non-formulaic. Each painting is rendered in a manner which fits with the subject rather than relying on tried and tested methods. Above all, light is the most important element in my paintings. If I think I’ve captured that aspect of a subject then that is enough – whether I’m working on a small sketch or large studio painting, detail is always subordinate to value, aerial perspective and colour harmony.
