My pictures are often intensely coloured and use more-or-less recogniseable images – geometric forms, portraits, landscapes, interiors, still life, imagery from popular and high culture - but rendered and juxtaposed in such a way as to defamiliarize the subjects. They are part of a long series of reflections on the nature of picture-making. These are interconnected works and in them I try to take account of the history of meaning and form in visual art and my purpose is to see how these can be reimagined using contemporary processes in an art world now without movements or consensus. I am particularly concerned with how visual representation can highlight mythology and social change. In the last two years I have been moving towards printmaking and working with combinations of analogue and digital methods. I have begun to incorporate painting and photography, particularly photomontage into my pictures and to work with digital printers to create works on paper. What I used to think of as a painting I now see as a temporary halt in a process.

I came to visual art via a Masters degree in verbal communication from the University of Westminster. My art training began with three years of the Artslab programme at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, followed by Diploma and Post Graduate study at the Anteros Arts Foundation and Artpocket, both in the city of Norwich. I am a studio holder at Outpost Studios. I am a member of Outpost and of the Artpocket Community.
