Neil Stanton is a UK-based artist known for concept-driven and stylistically diverse work. He was raised in Goldthorpe, South Yorkshire, and now lives in Longridge, Lancashire. His artistic journey began with a foundation year at Doncaster College of Art, followed by a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design and Illustration from De Montfort University, where he later returned as mature and commercially experienced visiting lecturer. Early in his career, he worked as a book designer for Inter-Varsity Press in Leicester and later for the midlands based design and illustration hub known as Eikon (formerly Gerry Ball Associates) from 1995 to 2007. Situated on New Walk in Leicester he collaborated with a group of the UK’s foremost commercial artists at that time. Here he specialised in conventional airbrush illustration and other media before the advent of the Apple Mac. Here he produced illustrative artworks for many Midlands-based design groups and advertising agencies throughout the country, as well as well-known publishing houses including Cambridge University Press and Oxford University Press. His work consists of a broad range of approaches and is not confined to a single artistic style. He works across a range of media, including digital approaches and 3D rendering, creating pieces which ranges from from hyper-real imagery to purely abstract forms. His conceptual influences remain broad, sometimes exploring diverse themes. These often involve the tension between perception and the abstracted aesthetic of the human form. Elements of surrealism and Dada often appear in his practice, sometimes weaving in touches of irony and satire. Alongside His fine-art work, he had a successful commercial career as a professional freelance digital illustrator and high-end creative photo-retoucher and image manipulator for national and International brands. His fine-art work has been exhibited and sold in galleries including the Water Street Gallery in Todmorden and Cromford Gallery Derbyshire.
