Karen Joubert was born in 1954, to a French father and an American mother. Her father was the chief purser of the SS France cruise ship and thus Karen had a childhood of travel.
She studied at the Academy Charpentier in Paris, where she met and married a young Thai artist and for many years she was mentored by Daniel Cordier, a well know French art dealer and collector.
She was originally influenced by the tropical warm colors of Thailand and its vegetation from which she developed and evolved her own unique style. Her detailed figurative paintings are bursting with life and color, they depict thick vegetation, dense, lush and exotic imaginary jungles of virgin forests that are a paradise of infinite tiny details.
Karen broadened the subjects of her paintings with black paint drawings applying color progressively and drawing on her own life experience, including human figures, animals, places and people of influence. Karen has added Pop art and comic style to her repertoire, which is more spontaneous and gestural art.
