Matthias Kreher

My artistic interest developed already in childhood. Apart from a three-year drawing course at the Evening Academy of the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, I am self-taught artist.
Since about fifteen years I worked almost exclusively with acrylic painting. I dedicate myself to different topics and motives, but remain true to the realistic painting. Often my realism is to be understood symbolically. My pictorial figures have a quite deliberate symbolic content beyond a concrete level of action, my landscapes often symbolize emotional states. Sometimes, however, it is "only" the play of light and shadow, the simple beauty of a motif or the joy of representation that motivates me to a picture.
My depicted persons are often random motives, which animated me to artistic realization. In the portrayed sometimes funny and tragic moments are close to each other. Unlike the monumental symbolic art of other Leipzig artists, my paintings remain cautious but at the same time clearly formulated questions.

My works are in private collections in Germany, Austria, France and USA.
