Petra Senn

Petra's work is mostly about memories and emotions. Her photos directly respond to the surrounding environment and use everyday experiences from the artist as a starting point.
These are often framed instances that would go unnoticed in their original context.
She amplifies the astonishment of the spectator by creating compositions or settings that generate tranquil poetic images that leave traces and balances on the edge of recognition and alienation.
Her works appear as dreamlike images in which fiction and reality meet, well-known objects merge, meanings shift, past and present fuse. Time and memory always play a key role. By applying abstraction, she absorbs the art of remembering into daily practice.
She has a deep inner desire to protect the past from vanishing physically and inevitably mental.
In her work she takes great care, neither to simply reflect reality nor to make just visual statements. There is always left space for the spectators for their own emotions and opinions. Petra considers her work as visual stimulus, an invitation in ones inner world, knowing well that this process only works if she perceives deeper emotions while taking the pictures herself. Studied communication design/ photodesign at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Dortmund, Germany. Diploma.
Works as independent photographer since 1992 in Duesseldorf, Germany
