Jay Raw

I am a professional West Country painter and sculptor living and working in Dartmouth, Devon. I am married with three sons and six grandchildren. Having retired early two years ago I now concentrate full-time on my sculptures and painting. I take inspiration from the world around me and how people interact. I use layered acrylics finished with soft gel gloss to really bring out the colours and to give my sculptures a jewel like and smooth appearance.
I often paint abstract art and draw in pencil. Most often with human and animal form and emotional influences. Bright, bold colours accentuating muscle tone, mood and elegant body form. This is my painting trade mark. I now concentrates more on metal sculpture and explore the aspects of life that we all love – our pets, transport, love, passion and nature. Often with a whimsical touch.

I have drawn and painted since a young age. I lived and worked throughout the Middle East during my career as a design engineer and painted and drew when ever I could find the time. The Desert excites me for its empty beauty.

Royal Commission, Saudi Arabia My first exhibition was in the Middle East where I sold a large industrial scene painted on acetate to Prince Turki bin Saud bin Mohammed Al Saud. Recent sales have been online at various West Country galleries.
