Leena Baker

In her works, she sheds light on the aesthetics of the body and hands and the strength of the contrast between shadow and light as a unique way of highlighting all the contradictions of human feelings. Baker uses a variety of techniques that unite in one painting, including watercolors, which are distinctive in their flow and range, forming harmonious spaces of overlapping colors. Another technique used by the artist is accentuating certain areas of the art piece with acrylic colors in strong, bold, and clear strokes.

The artist Lina Baker was born in 1981 and received her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences from Amman’s Al-Isra University in 2004. Several years later, she embarked on a different path, devoting herself to painting, and completed her studies in plastic arts at the Ministry of Culture’s Fine Arts Center in 2014.

* Baker has participated in a number of exhibitions, including "Soft Lines of Strength" at Zara Gallery in Amman, as well as "A Touch of Hope" and "Transfigurations" at Dar Al-Mashreq Gallery. She has also exhibited her works at the Royal Cultural Center and the Motif15 event at Al Qasr Metropole Hotel.

* Ishraq – Radiance 2021
Through my paintings, I attempt to capture the radiance of the soul through the symbolism of celestial orbs including the sun, the moon, and other spheres. I harness the power of color, shadows, and light, using them as messengers to reflect hidden feelings. When lightning flashes through the window of the eyes or knocks on the door of the heart, the soul receives it and turns it into a shining light that is limited by neither time nor place. It is through the radiance of a soul that we savor the meaning of eternity in one moment that arrives suddenly and just as unexpectedly ends.
