Matthew Hall

Matthew Hall is an emerging abstract painter based in Brooklyn, NY. Born and raised in Connecticut, he graduated from Hartford Art School. There he was exposed to the richness of fine art's history, as well as the avant-garde. By studying under Pat Lipsky, a painter notable for her use of color, he was exposed to the radiant and plastic nature of color.

"Painting in the 20th century was about flattening the picture plane using the plasticity of color to create a malleable sense of depth. With my work I pull apart the picture plane using geometric structure while maintaining color plasticity. This creates a higher dimensionality that mutually interacts with the observer."
