Marjan Hekmati

Marjan Hekmati, an Iranian-Canadian artist, embarked on her creative journey amidst diverse cultural landscapes. Initially trained as an architect, she seamlessly transitioned into painting, driven by an innate passion nurtured since her youth. Inspired by luminaries such as Alice Neel, Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, David Hockney, Georgia O'Keeffe, Edvard Munch, Peter Doig, and Wilhelm Sasnal, Hekmati's work exudes a unique blend of expressive brushwork and vibrant colors, capturing the essence of her subjects with emotional depth.

Her artistic evolution, learned from mentors and encounters with notable figures, culminated in a distinct style characterized by the interplay of light and shadow. Notable series like "The Light Red" and "Squint" reflect her fascination with nature's beauty and its emotional resonance. Currently, Hekmati delves into a new project envisioning polar bears in an abandoned Arctic habitat, weaving narratives of post-human existence.
