Tatang B.Sp. is an Indonesian artist who started as a professional artist twenty years ago. Born in Tegal, Central Java, and has lived in Bali since 1986. He studied at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Udayana University, Denpasar, Bali, from 1986 to 1992.
Actively exhibiting throughout Indonesia, he has earned a number of awards and was among the top ten winners in the 1998 Philip Morris Indonesia Art Awards 1998.
He is a self-taught artist who recently used the surrealist method in his artwork. Surrealism refers to the idea of an independent reality existing "underside" our conscious reality. A method that combines logic with the irrational, dream with reality to create a fictional reality; a reality that is different from pure reality. Tatang presents a poetic mood in most of his paintings as an expression of soul, thought, and emotion.
