Sam Rough

A British Asian painter currently living in West London. She brings with her a duality of cultures; her Asian heritage and the British culture she was born into. This unique perspective into the lived experiences, traditions and connections to both are referenced in her abstract paintings, where the universality of the human experience is explored.

She is deeply influenced by the art of many ancient cultures; the raw primal beauty of African tribal art, textiles & vernacular architecture; the exuberant textiles & ceramics of Morocco, the intricacy of Persian miniature art, as well as the unfiltered honesty of outsider art.

Her paintings are instinctual expressions; spontaneity &authenticity rule tempered with some conscious thought and eventually a dialogue ensues. Slowly over weeks and months a painting emerges.

Completed a Post Graduate Certificate Education (Teacher Training) teaching in inner London schools
